As much as I initially enjoyed Ruby on Rails, when the Supplier area on Clarion Desktop went down for the 4th time recently, I decided it was time to look for something a bit more robust.

In the end I decided to rebuild the Supplier area of the website using CakePHP.

I downloaded Cake at 3pm today for the first time, and within 3 hours I’d learnt how to use it and built a fully functional supplier area!  But what impresses me even more than its ease of use is how simple it is to deploy.

I’ll be writing about my thoughts and (brief) experience with CakePHP on my blog.  Probably tomorrow once I’ve had some sleep.

There’s still work to be done, a few things are still missing, and it needs to be cleaned up cosmetically, but functionally everything is now back up and running.
